Huawei is one of the partners that chose to come back to Junction year after year, and their challenges never disappoint. We kept in touch with our friends at Huawei, and we are here today to deliver their message to all of our Junction Community.

Huawei AppGallery’s top priority has been its investment in bringing great apps to the platform. Since its launch overseas in 2018, the growth of the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) Ecosystem happened at an impressive speed. By the end of 2022 Q3, AppGallery had more than 580 million monthly active users, 45 million of which were in Europe. In 2021, AppGallery achieved 432 billion app distributions globally, while Huawei’s global developer community has grown to over 6 million developers. This resulted in more than 220,000 apps being integrated with HMS Core, and the number of apps that can be experienced on HMS smartphones also grew by 147% last year.

In pursuit of excellence and as champions of consumer choice, AppGallery continuously provides apps with a global influence, as well as rich local ones that meet the diverse needs of users everywhere. This includes some of the most popular apps around.

Huawei’s products and services are available in more than 170 countries and are used by a third of the world’s population. Fourteen R&D centers have been set up in countries such as Germany, Sweden, and China. Huawei Consumer BG is one of Huawei’s three business units and covers smartphones, PC and tablets, wearables, cloud services, etc. Huawei’s global network is built on almost 30 years of expertise in the telecom industry and is dedicated to delivering the latest technological advances to consumers worldwide.

Huawei actively cooperates with developers all over the world. Attending Junction 2022 as a partner is a great milestone for Huawei in 2022. Junction 2022 is the biggest hackathon in Europe taking place in Espoo, Finland, attracting over 1300 hackers from 87 countries to innovate together. There were 6 tracks, 18 challenges in total, and only 48 hours to develop a groundbreaking project.

This year Huawei brought the challenge “Work Remotely with Huawei” and asked developers to come up with creative ideas for a mobile app or game which could simplify, optimize or just make everyone’s remote working life more exciting.

On 3rd November 2022, Junction organized a Terminal event for Huawei. The goal of this event was to introduce the Huawei challenge to the hackathon participants, provide technical workshops about Huawei Mobile Services (HMS), which were supposed to be used for their solution, talk about growth opportunities within AppGallery and share information about Huawei Developer programs. Through this event, developers gained a further and deeper understanding of Huawei tech, which helped them better integrate Huawei kits into their projects.

Huawei Technical experts from EU Huawei Developer Technical Support team and Business Developers from Huawei Finland offered onsite and online support at Dipoli during the challenge, including mobile test devices for development and debugging, HMS starter projects for Native Android, React Native, Flutter, Unity, business advice and APIs links and documents. More than 600+ developers visited the Huawei booth and 300+ joined the lucky draw sessions.

Working together and remotely is not only about milestones and deliverables, but also about building interpersonal relations and getting to know each other better. The winning team, “Pause-Fit”, designed and developed an interesting solution for those who work remotely but at the same time would like to remain both social and fit. Covid-19 lockdowns were a painful reminder that we simply cannot function properly as a society when cutting down social contact. “Pause-Fit” is a multiplayer game where friends or members of the same team can do yoga together and compete for points. One of its core features, posture recognition, is powered by the Huawei Machine Learning SDK.
